Article V: Amending the Constitution
Article V states that the Constitution can be changed or amended, if both houses of the government have over a 2/3 majority of votes in favor of the amendment. Which then, must be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Amendments are extremely important to our county, because as time goes on, our country changes more and more, which means our Constitution should too. Although lots of the Sections and Articles of the Constitution are still actuate, some pieces need to be added or changed. I would change Article V, and remove the right to make amendments to our Constitution. This would be a huge change for our country, because tons and tons of Amendments and critical changes to our government have been made over the years. For example, if amendments could not be made, women would still not have the right to vote, equal rights to women and African-Americans, and lots of other very important changes. This change would affect almost everyone, because our country has changed so much, in almost every aspect. However, it would mostly affect women and African-Americans. If Amendments were not allowed, we would still have slaves, and blacks would still be treated differently and looked down upon. Women would never have gained the right to vote, and most would still be working at home, cleaning, cooking and taking care of their children. It would extremely limit tons of the opportunities we have now, including the right to vote for women and African-Americans, we couldn't carry guns, we wouldn't have the freedom of speech, and tons and tons of others. Our lives would be unimaginably different without the Amendments. If we made this change now in 2013, it would be a huge change for our country, and effects would be immediate and then slowly grow over time. Right after this change was made, our lives would dramatically change, and our world would be completely different from how we now know it. Slaves would be allowed again, women would loose all rights, we would loose our basic five rights, and lots more.
