"We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
The Preamble is the very first piece of the Constitution, and it explains our reasons for government. It lists the six main goals for the new nation: To form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty. Each of these goals has played a part in successfully building a strong nation.
First, the founding fathers wished to "form a more perfect union", which meant they wanted the states to interact well, as well as establish a good relationship between the states and the national government. Second, the Preamble states that we must "establish justice", meaning the Americans wanted to be ruled by laws, not over-powerful kings and monarchies, and they wanted all the laws to be equally enforced to everyone. In addition, the founding fathers also wished for "domestic tranquility", meaning they hoped for peace and order within our country. Furthermore, the government wished to "provide for the common defense", or the national government would be liable for protecting its citizens from foreign enemies and intruders. Next, the Preamble also wishes to "promote the general welfare", which meant the government would support a government where everyone could be unique and prosper as they wished. Furthermore, to "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity" gave people the right to pass on the freedom and rights they had fought for in the Revolutionary War, to their children and future generations.
All in all, the constitution is a genius creation that has compromised many of the great problems our nation previously had, as well as countless more that will continue through history into a document. It maintains peace and stability in our county, and without it, the United States would be chaos. The goal of the Constitution was to divide the power between the people and our national government. However, in order to enable one of the three branches of government, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial, from dominating, a system of checks and balances have been established.
